About Paul

Paul A. Gaines owns and operates Alpha-Zulu Composites, LLC, at the Kingman, Arizona airport. He is both an A&P Mechanic and Private Pilot (with glider and power ratings) and has over 40 years of experience in flying and composite aircraft repair and fabrication. Paul was born and raised in aviation, taking his first flight while still in the womb. He was first introduced to gliding at the Texas Soaring Association, where he “ran” wings and ropes for gliders at the age of 10. He flew solo in a glider for the first time at age 14, and at the age of 16 he had obtained his glider pilot’s rating and began to tinker with composite sailplanes. A young Paul then spent two summers at the Glaser-Dirks Flugzeugbau GmbH factory in Germany learning aircraft composites, and later attended Auburn University and graduated from Kennesaw State University, earning a four-year degree in International Finance. He has since made a living out of his composite knowledge and skills, and currently owns, maintains, and flies 4 aircraft: An ASW-20C, a DG-800S, a Duo Discus, and a Cirrus SR22, 3 of which he rebuilt from totaled
aircraft. His love of aviation history and flight science has prepped him well to be an active Board member with the Aviation Heritage Center of Kingman.
